"BRUSH UP YOUR ITALIAN"
Are you travelling to Italy? Make the most of your trip by joining Juliana's BRUSH UP YOUR ITALIAN One-Day Italian For Travellers & Conversation Course, using her new ITALIAN TO GO.
This course is for people with a little bit of Italian. It is also ideal for people who want to brush up their "rusty" Italian before a trip to Italy.
Would you like to speak Italian for travel or personal or work reasons? You can Learn Conversational Italian Quickly in friendly, enjoyable classes with a relaxed atmosphere, led by the author of Fra Amici (Amongst Friends), Juliana Pupazzoni Burman. Enjoy yourself as you learn in a practical, fun, effective course that will have you speaking Italian quickly and confidently. Starting with Italian For Travellers Workshops and then progressing to Conversational Italian, you learn authentic, functional, everyday language to help you to communicate simply in Italian.
We take 12 key travel scenarios and for each scenario we start by revising the most essential language on that topic and then we expand each topic to help you to communicate in Italian in that scenario.
(1) How to pronounce basic Italian words and phrases - Greetings, days, everyday language - Key travel expressions that you will use frequently in a wide range of travel scenarios. This is Revision for people doing "Brush Up Your Italian".
(2) How to handle Italian numbers, money and prices. This is mostly Revision for people doing "Brush Up Your Italian".
(3) How to order food and drinks in coffee bars and restaurants - A look at the Italian To Go Italian Menu Guide - Common dishes on menus. This is partly Revision for people doing "Brush Up Your Italian".
(4) How to eat cheaply and well in Italy - How to buy your own food in food shops and markets.
(5) How to book accommodation, check in and check out, make requests, etc.
(6) How to go shopping.
(7) Transport - How to get around - Travelling by train, bus, coach, air, ferry - Buying transport tickets and booking seats.
(8) How to find your way around - Asking for street directions.
(9) Sightseeing - Italian towns - Buying tickets for sport and shows.
(10) Learn basic conversational expressions that you can use for meeting people and making friends in Italy.
(11) Asking for help - Emergency expressions - How to make special requests and talk about allergies and food intolerances.
(12) Travel tips for travelling around Italy, e.g., learning to read an Italian train ticket, reading names of shops, understanding road signs, aspects of Italian language, culture and way of life - as they affect travellers.
You can either do the Full Day course, starting at 9:00am, or you can do the Short Day course, starting after our Morning Coffee Break.
You can make the most of this combined course that starts at Introduction to Italian level in the morning and proceeds to Brush Up Your Italian level in the afternoon. There will be two separate Conversation Groups, one at each level.
The Full Day course starts at 9:00am with Revision session 1 - Introduction to Italian. After a quick introduction to the course, people doing "BRUSH UP YOUR ITALIAN" have the option of:
1. Joining people who are Beginners in "Introduction to Italian" Part 1, especially if their Italian is "rusty"
AND/OR
2. Working in groups on practising their basic conversational scenarios using the Express Booklet in "Brush Up Your Italian" Part 1. (If you wish, you can do some of each.)

The focus is on conversation - on everyday language and travel topics. You start speaking Italian from the very beginning. The practical hands-on approach makes learning Italian easy. The classes are practical and lots of fun, with laughter, Italian lunches and Italian coffee breaks with real Italian coffee!

Cancellations
All cancellations will incur an administration fee of $12.50. If notification is received 14 calendar days prior to course start date a full refund less administration fee will be provided; Cancellation between 14 and 7 calendar days prior to the course will result in a 50% refund less administration fee. Cancellation less than 7 days prior to the course, fees will not be refunded. In the event a course is cancelled by Italian Courses, a full refund will be provided to all applicants.
FRA AMICI, FRA AMICI 2 and CLASSES - Testimonial
Over the years, I have had several attempts at learning Italian. This course has been the first one that actually worked for me! At last a knowledge of how Italian language hangs together is cementing itself into my (not so young) brain. The grammar and vocabulary are finally making sense. Of course the conversation really helps too. This is also the first course I have undertaken in which we actually do have real conversation in Italian, which along with the delicious authentic Italian coffee and home-made biscuits, all help to make the experience bring to life a little patch of Italy in Perth. The friendly atmosphere in Juliana's home, round her big kitchen table, adds to the authenticity. One can imagine one is really there and it is sometimes a surprise to walk out of the door at the end of the lesson and realise we are actually still in Perth! Juliana has such a lovely friendly attitude, you feel you really are 'fra amici' (“amongst friends”).
The fact that I have returned for several sessions, and progressed from Beginners through Intermediate, and now to Fra Amici 2, says a lot. And it is nice to see so many familiar faces return to take part in each new set of lessons. Truly fra amici!
The material is very comprehensive and professionally put together. The Audio dialogues are realistic, and spoken by genuine Italians, with delightful and imaginative scenarios.
The grammar sections are most comprehensive. The books include a lot of photos, maps and details of everyday life in Italy.
It's good being taught by someone who is completely fluent in both English and Italian - it makes it easier to understand some of the complex points of grammar when they are explained by a trained professional language teacher. It is a lot of fun and I look forward to Monday nights. It has enabled me to have more confidence to try out my Italian language skills and to be understood - when I have been lucky enough to visit Italy since doing the course. The travel packs also proved to be very useful. It has been truly well worth the money.
